Luggage on a Bosnia transfer: skis, bikes and big bags

Most transfer problems are luggage problems in disguise. The car is fine, the road is fine, and then four people arrive with four large suitcases, two carry-ons, a stroller and a ski bag, and the sedan that was booked for four is suddenly a sedan for two. This post is the honest capacity of each vehicle and how the awkward items travel.

A “bag” here means a normal checked suitcase. A carry-on or a backpack sits at your feet or on your lap and does not count against the boot.

Where the sedan stops

Three passengers and three checked suitcases is a full sedan boot. Add a stroller, a ski bag or a fourth suitcase and something has to ride on the back seat, which means one fewer passenger. So the practical rule is simple: four people, or three people with anything extra, is a minivan. The supplement is small against the cost of arriving with a bag on someone’s lap for four hours, and on the route pages the minivan fare is shown next to the sedan fare so there is no surprise.

Skis and snowboards

Skis, snowboards, poles, helmets and boot bags travel free on every transfer, and we do not charge per piece. A sedan carries two to three sets of skis or boards plus normal luggage, with one ski bag laid along the rear seat if the boot is full. Snowboards are bulkier than skis in a boot; four boarders need a minivan even with light bags, and so does any group of four with overnight luggage. Bikes

Bicycles travel on a bike rack fitted to the vehicle, so the boot and the seats stay free for people and luggage. Tell us at booking how many bikes and what kind (a road bike and an e-bike are different weights) and the vehicle comes with the rack already on. A bagged bike can also ride inside a minivan if you prefer it out of the weather; say which you want.

Strollers, car seats and family kit

A folding stroller fits in a sedan boot alongside two suitcases, or three if it is a compact one. Child seats are provided free and count as a passenger place: two child seats plus one adult fill a sedan, and a family of four with a stroller is a minivan. Oversize and odd shapes

Golf bags, a cello, a surfboard, a large framed picture from a Baščaršija workshop: all of it has travelled with us. The answer is almost always a minivan with a seat folded, and always a message at booking with the dimensions. What we cannot do is discover the item at the kerb and improvise with a full sedan.

How luggage is handled on the day

The driver loads at the door and unloads at the door. At the airport the driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes the trolley from there. At an old-town address in Mostar, Dubrovnik, Split or Kotor, where cars cannot reach the door, the driver walks the bags in from the nearest accessible point. During any stop on the way, at Konjic, Blagaj, Kravica or a border, the vehicle is locked with your bags inside and the driver stays with it; you take a phone and a jacket.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a luggage fee? No. The fare is per vehicle and includes whatever fits in it. The only cost that changes is the vehicle class if you need the minivan.

How much luggage fits in a sedan? Three checked suitcases for up to three passengers, plus carry-ons at your feet.

Do skis cost extra? No. Skis, boards, poles, helmets and boot bags are free on every transfer.

Can you carry a bike? Yes, on a bike rack, with the boot left free for luggage. Tell us at booking how many and what kind.

What if we arrive with more luggage than we said? The driver will fit what safely fits. If it does not, we send a larger vehicle when one is available, at the larger fare, and you may wait for it. It is far easier to tell us the day before.

Are our bags safe during stops? Yes. The vehicle is locked with the driver next to it; nothing is left visible.
