Most of our Medjugorje bookings are pilgrim group transfers — parish groups of 8 to 15, religious-tour operators, families travelling together. We have run this work since the early years of the operation, and the logistics are well-rehearsed: minivan or Sprinter vehicle, hotel pickups in the origin city, fixed drop-off at St. James Parish Church or the pilgrim hotel cluster, driver waiting through the day's activities, return at the end.
Vehicle sizing is straightforward. Up to 3 pilgrims with overnight luggage: standard sedan. 4-7: minivan (Mercedes Vito or VW Caravelle). 8-15: Sprinter minibus at a small surcharge. Larger groups we coordinate as a multi-vehicle convoy with synchronised arrival times. Religious materials, parish banners, processional items — all transport free, just flag dimensions at booking if you have anything unusual.
Multi-day arrangements are the most-booked configuration during peak feast windows. The standard pattern: airport pickup (Dubrovnik, Split, or SJJ Sarajevo) → hotel drop in Medjugorje → daily local transport between hotel and the spiritual sites (St. James Church, Apparition Hill, Cross Mountain) → return airport transfer at the end of the pilgrimage. Where pilgrims start the day
Realistic operator ranges. Border-crossing routes (Dubrovnik, Split) include the typical Doljani/Metković processing time; EU EES adds 10-15 min for non-EU/EEA passengers on first crossing.
Drop-off, parking, access to the sites
St. James Parish Church (Crkva svetog Jakova) is the centre of the Medjugorje complex. The road network around it is fully vehicle-accessible — we drop directly at the church entrance for guests heading to mass, at the main pilgrim car park if your priority is moving freely between the church and the surrounding hotel/restaurant cluster, or directly at your hotel lobby (Hotel International, Hotel Pansion, the various smaller pilgrim accommodations all have vehicle access).
Apparition Hill (Podbrdo) is at the southwest edge of the village. The trailhead has a dedicated visitor car park about 200 metres from where the climb begins. Most pilgrim groups walk from the church area to the base of Podbrdo (about 1 kilometre) but for guests with mobility issues or larger groups starting the day at Podbrdo, we drop directly at the trailhead car park.
Cross Mountain (Križevac) is south of the village, with a longer climb than Podbrdo. The trailhead is at the end of a 2-kilometre vehicle-accessible road; we drop here for guests doing the Cross climb as their primary day activity. The actual Cross Mountain ascent is about 45 minutes to an hour each way for an average pace.
Feast windows & booking timing
Major peak windows fill up early and require advance booking. The biggest are 24-25 June (anniversary of the first 1981 apparition), 15 August (Assumption of Mary), Holy Week running into Easter, and the Medjugorje Youth Festival in late July through early August. These windows see significant pressure on driver availability and minivan capacity, plus accommodations across the village fill weeks ahead.
For peak-window bookings, we recommend confirming the transfer at least 2-3 weeks ahead. Outside these windows, same-day or next-day booking usually works without issue. Tell us your arrival airport and feast date at first contact and we work backward to schedule the airport transfer, hotel transport, and return leg.
Off-peak pilgrim travel (autumn through early spring, excluding Holy Week) is significantly quieter both at Medjugorje itself and in transfer demand. Many parish groups specifically book outside peak dates for a calmer experience at the spiritual sites.

We drop directly at the church entrance, the main pilgrim car park, or your hotel on the approach roads (Hotel International, Hotel Pansion, the smaller pilgrim accommodations). For the base of Apparition Hill (Podbrdo), there is dedicated visitor parking 200 metres from the trailhead — we drop you there if your priority is the climb rather than mass attendance.
All travels free. Pilgrim group luggage (suitcases, religious materials, parish banners, prayer books, any items for liturgical use) is handled standard. Larger items like banners or processional crosses fit a minivan; flag at booking with rough dimensions if you have anything unusual. Items stay locked in the vehicle while you are at the church or hills.

Modest 15% surcharge for transfers between 22:00 and 06:00. Most pilgrimage timing is daytime (mass schedules, hill climbs in daylight) so the surcharge rarely applies. Late returns from a long day at Medjugorje typically end before 22:00 even with evening rosary.
